I had noticed that the "commented" feature wasn't working: I'll have to go and check the site settings to see if anything can be changed.

As for the ability to subscribe to threads: do you mean by RSS feed?

One major difference in the new system is that you can't see from the list of blogs which have received comments. This in addition to the innability to easily subscribe to a thread I believe severly limits the usefulness of these blogs as they become more of a soapbox rather than a tool for discussion.

Yes, as far as I know all existing information will be retained. As for exciting changes, I think embedding video is a feature, though not certain of java!

I find the blogs a useful way of communicating; however they do require the reader/s to be willing to enter into the dialogue and not to initiate offline capmaigns where they disagree. I believe in the ethos of openness and debate, and reserve the right to moderate my position in the light of discourse and dialogue. Provocative posts stimulate the best responses, and we can all learn by the dialogue they create. I would be sorry to see ClusterBlog disappear, and feel it offers a valuable forum.

I was introduced to the blogs by Mandy in connection with the data projectors and dust issue.

I find it useful to have the view of the end user with specific issues to arm me with the knowledge and background required to trouble shoot issues we are having and it helps to be reassured that I am not alone with these issues.

I have enjoyed using the blogs this year and find them a really asy way to post information and links to useful and related sites. My only bugbear is that asbout once a month I receive hundreds of spam emails and spend a couple of hours deleting these from my blog - I have comments approved before I post them but it is still necessary to have a clean up now and then and this takes a lot of time. Is thee any way we could block these spam comments?

Thanks for that - since our upgrade the smilies seem to be functioning fine. As you say it may well have been an issue with the way we'd had the site configured.

Sophie, Community Server 2.0 does support smilies. Maybe its the editor you're using, or how the site is configured. But emoticons are definitely supported. Administration->Settings->Post Settings->Allow Emoticons.

I presume you mean do hyperlinks work in the little synopsis of the blog entry that is displayed on the Blogs home page - as far as I can tell, no! I think all formatting and HTML is stripped from displaying in that paragraph.

Do hyperlinks only work if you click through to the actual blog rather than on the post itself on the cluster blogs page (where all blog entries are posted chronologically?

resizing images in Paint (the standard image modification program available with Office) can be difficult, so if anyone else has any other recommendations of programs they have found useful I'd be glad to hear about them.
