The BBC Digital Curriculum has  been launched. It's totally free, and  safe, with no external links other than  into the main BBC site - and you don't  see these within  the activities. It covers  Years 1 to 11.

Creating a log on - it assumes you're a pupil and asks which year you're in! If you log on as a Key Stage 2 pupil, click 'subjects' and  you can access the other year  groups anyway.

You can save activities in your folder (KS2)  or Big Box (KS1), so that they can be easily found later. I would expect that teacher management tools will be added at a later date!

Much will be added over the months ahead. At present, there's  KS2 Geography and KS1 English. The KS1 examples are richly animated and feature big books, singing along, storyretelling, and making your own version. with interactive tools and speech support.

Click on 'Grown Ups' to access objectives, advice for the class teacher, follow-up activities - and a separate section for parents.

Children can set up a log in, and access from home. There are many more features to encourage independence and collaboration. For example, you can add friends to a group, to do an activity online.

I have not spent long on the site - these are my first thoughts! Colleagues saw the demo at BETT and were very impressed. Keep coming back to it as much more will be added. The service will continue to be free, but there is an undertaking with commercial publishers that not more than 60% of the statutory curriculum will be covered.
