Here's a nice Christmas session for any KS1 / 2 class. First we watched a video about a Santa Claus tree decoration, (shown to me by Jane at Stone St Mary Primary School, thank you!!). Then we came up with our own versions using 2Create A Story. The children thought of a different item for Santa to see on the table and a different way for him to get there.

The prime Minister has asked Dr Tanya Byron to carry out a review of the risks to children and young people from potentially harmful or inappropriate material on the internet and in video games.
Key questions for the review are:
- What are the benefits and opportunities of the internet and video games?
- What are the potential or actual risks to children's safety and wellbeing?
- To what extent do children, young people and parents understand and manage those risks and how can they be supported to do so?
- What, if anything, could be changed in order to help children, young people and parents manage the potential or actual risks?
You may wish to consider gaining the views of children and young people you work with too. Whilst this may seem daunting, it could always be managed within a teacher mediated activity.
Have your say
There are a number of ways you can get involved.
For more information about the review and how to have your say, go to: www.dcsf.gov.uk/byronreview
You can also email Tanya at: Byron.Review@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk
Dr Tanya Byron will be reporting to Government in March 2008.
Pagebull is a search engine that teachers may find useful to quickly find a good website to show to the class. When you enter a search term, the results that come back are not text, instead visual images of the website are shown on the screen. This makes identifying favourite sites already visited easy to spot.
Here are three search examples:
As with all search engines, we would strongly advise that seach terms are tested before showing to class.

Test your vocabulary and donate rice to the hungry simultaneously. For every word you get right, sponsors donate 10 grains of rice; you can see the rice piling up right next to the quiz. The words start off somewhat easy, and the more you get right, the more difficult they become. It’s a perfect brain-challenger for students and teachers alike!

"We looking at buying a fast reliable printer as our one has just died.
We have been looking at a supplier who offer a Konica Minolta Magicolor 5570 printer with a 1 year tie-in that we purchase the cartridges from them. The cartridges are about £40 for black and £75 for colour."
Do you have the printer in your school? Would you recommend it or a different one?
I've added a new resource to the Kent NGfL games page. It allows you to model a jacket for your Beebot on screen and then print it out. Much like you can for the Pixie.

The only tricky part is that you will need to set the printer preferences to 'landscape' otherwise the shell will not fit.
Any recommendations will be very welcome!!
James:)
